For returning Stevenson High School students, a new school represents a chance to establish new goals as they move one step closer to graduation.

“I want to focus on my grades,” said senior Marcy Morris said. “And this is my last year of high school, so I want to dive myself into high school.”

More than 2,000 Stevenson Titans returned to school this week as back of the fall registration process.

Similar orientations and registration dates have taken place at high schools and junior highs across Utica Community Schools.

For students, it is an opportunity to find their new classes, take their student ID pictures, sign up for clubs and – most importantly – reconnect with their friends.

“I’m excited to be back,” said junior Mazino Amuwha. “I’m looking forward to the basketball season and how we are going to compete this year. Hopefully I’ll have a strong year and get an offer.”

Many students said the feel of back to school is different this year as all traditions are now firmly back in place. Senior Sean Datta is vice president of the key club and is a member of the Marching Band.

“I can feel we are bouncing back,” he said. “We keep taking little steps like this and we are back to normal.”
