Stevenson senior honored by Sterling Heights with outstanding employee award
Student with Sterling Heights employeesAs a School to Work/Co-op student, Verna Cholagh’s work ethic quickly earned her a reputation for being able to put out small office fires.

Her work with technology, positive attitude and wide-ranging skills has earned the Stevenson senior a temporary paid internship with the Sterling Heights Fire Department and recognition with the outstanding performance award.

The award was presented by the City of Sterling Heights as part of its annual employee award ceremony on February 17.

“She has really grown from the time she started and I know she has great things ahead of her,” said Shawn Allen, of the fire prevention division of the office.

Allen noted that Cholagh was originally hired to convert drawings for a new computer system at the department. She later transitioned to fill in for office staff on leave over the summer.

“But more impressively when she went back to school in September she continued to help us out only working her after school hours,” Allen said.

Cholagh plans to study engineering at Oakland University next year.
