Hello Titan Families,

Last Thursday’s news about our in-person conferring of diplomas was exciting.  With all of the other losses of prom, of senior clap-outs, of the all-night party, it was absolutely crucial to us that we found a safe and inclusive way to invite our graduates in, to give them that diploma, and to give families a chance to see and participate in that rite of passage.  Though it is not what we any of us wanted for the class of 2020, I am pleased with the balance that was struck!

The intent of this communication is looking ahead and providing information on Stevenson High’s Class of 2020 diploma ceremony and celebrating our Seniors one last time!

The Class of 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony will “air” beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday June 6th.  A link to the virtual ceremony will be provided to our families.  This link is good for anytime and does not need to be watched specifically at 10 am.

Following the viewing of the virtual ceremony, our graduates are invited to come up to the school, according to the schedule below.  They will participate in our Senior Celebration and Diploma Ceremony.  We will be taking every precaution to adhere to necessary social distancing and safety protocol.  Graduates are encouraged to wear a mask which can be removed when it is time for photos.

In order to make the diploma ceremony enjoyable and as smooth and safe as possible, please read carefully and follow all instructions.

We are grateful to have the help of the Sterling Heights Police Department to help with the safe entrance and exit of our families.

  • Each vehicle must be a traditional family vehicle (car, truck, SUV) and cannot be an RV, limo, bus or any similar type of non-traditional family vehicle.
  • Only one family vehicle will be allowed per graduate. The graduate MUST be in the vehicle. The driver MUST be someone other than the graduate.
  • Vehicles should only contain members of your household or family.  Graduates from different homes should not arrive in the same vehicle together.
  • Families should have a sign in the lower front passenger side window with the graduate’s first and last name in it (large enough font to read from afar).
  • Families are encouraged to decorate their cars to celebrate their Senior!  Decorations must be school appropriate.
  • Seniors should come dressed in school approved cap and zipped gown, and any school provided regalia. A reminder that caps and gowns cannot be decorated.
  • Families will need to come during their designated time according to the scheduled below in order to ensure the safety of our staff and students and to ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible.  We have many Seniors to celebrate, please be patient with the process.  Diplomas will only be available during your designated time. Vehicles arriving before their time will be turned around.
  • Family members MUST remain in their vehicle at all times.  At the designated location, the graduate only will be able to get out of the car and walk through a series of stops on the sidewalk in front of the building.  The family will be able to follow along-side them in the car taking pictures from the vehicle.
  • Graduates may wear comfortable shoes they can easily walk in.
Cars will enter our student parking lot through the Northern-most entrance, closest to Utica road.  Vehicles will be checked in and asked to follow the procession of cars around the parking lot, which will be the staging area.  At no point will family members be allowed to get out of the car.  The graduate will walk through 4 stations on the sidewalk in front of the ECC, and the family will be able to follow along-side them in the car.
First, your car will check in (green star) before you enter the parking lot.

Our staff members will be there to help guide you and cheering you on!

When it is your turn, ONLY the graduate will leave the car and proceed through 4 stations.  The family will follow the graduate in their car.
  1. The first station (red star on map) is a photo opportunity and family members can take pictures from the car.
  2. At the second station (yellow star on map), students will cross the stage and receive their diploma cover.  A professional picture will be taken as they receive their diploma cover by Graduation Foto and proofs will be mailed to your home in approximately 10 days if you wish to make a purchase (if you have any questions regarding your pictures, you’ll need to call them directly at 1-800-482-0321).
  3. At the third station (purple star on map), graduates will have a professional staged picture taken by Graduation Foto (again, the proof will be mailed to your home and you’ll have to call them directly if you have any questions).  Stevenson will be providing one 5 x 7 professional photo to each family, mailed to your home.
  4. At the last station (black flag on map), graduates will receive their actual diplomas and graduation programs.
After the 4th station, the graduate will re-enter the car and you will exit out of the Southern driveway in front of the ECC.
