Student outside Tesla car

Alexander Altadonna graduated last month from the Tesla Start Program and is headed to Texas thanks to a job match program through a partnership with the car company and Macomb Community College.

The Tesla Start is a 12 week rigorous program that trains candidates for an opportunity to be Tesla Service Technicians; all around the country. Alex wavered between matches in California and Texas before deciding to head to the Lone Star state. Alex believes his path will still take him to California but for now Texas will be home.

This unique Tesla Start program is forward thinking and embodies Tesla's motto. Tesla is well known for their automobiles however Tesla is an energy company and automotive is just one small part of a sustainable energy future.

The class was limited to a select few with many applicants applying. Altadonna is confident his engineering courses under Mr. Garcia and automotive courses under Mr. Hoover at Stevenson High School played a large role in the selection process. SHS's engineering program also allowed him to showcase the skills acquired while competing in the Stevenson engineering competitions at MIAT and SquareOne before graduating in 2017.

In the fall after graduation Altadonna started taking core classes at MCC. He also accepted a fulltime position with a local engineering firm where they expanded his knowledge base by having him serve as a machinist; rounding the engineering process from design to finished product.

So when the Tesla opportunity came along...despite not quite having what was asked in the job description Alex applied and won a space in the program. Altadonna 's message...even if on paper you're not a perfect fit...apply anyway! You just might be exactly what they are looking for!

In March, as Altadonna received his certificate his instructor stated..."the next Tesla battery should be called the Alex...lots on energy and forward thinking all wrapped up in one." He also stated Altadonna was the youngest candidate of the Tesla program and he believes he will be looking for more candidates right out of high school.

Congratulations Alex, we are proud of you!
