Curriculum

At Stevenson High School, we are committed to preparing our students for continued success after high school graduation by providing a comprehensive and rigorous high school curriculum within a supportive educational climate. In fact, our mission is to create a positive and challenging learning environment that encourages all students to achieve their greatest potential as responsible, productive members of a diverse society.

The departments listed below represent the total curriculum of Stevenson High School. They are organized by the Michigan Merit Curriculum's (MMC) minimum high school graduation requirements. Students need to complete 22 credits plus meet all UCS and MMC requirements in order to graduate.

English Language Arts-4 credits required for graduation. District required English classes are noted in the guide and can only be replaced with higher levels of the class (i.e. English 10 can be replaced with Honors English 10). The rest of the classes are electives but may help the student meet a specific graduation requirement such as the Visual, Performing, Applied Arts, CTE (VPAA) requirement.

Mathematics-4 credits required for graduation. Students must complete Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, and one additional math or math-related credit in their final year. Students may take more than the required four years of math for elective credit. Since students can complete this requirement in many different ways, Utica Community Schools has published a pathways document to help students with their math selection. Also the senior math-related requirement can be met through a variety of classes offered by different departments and our identified by (SMR) after the course title.

Science-3 credits required for graduation. Students must complete Biology plus Chemistry or Physics and one additional science credit. Students can take additional science classes to fulfill other requirements. Utica Community Schools has published a pathways document to help students with their science selections. Social Studies-3 credits required for graduation. Students must complete .5 U.S. Government, .5 Economics, U.S. History, and World History. District required classes are noted in the guide and can be replaced with higher levels of the class (i.e. U.S. History can be replaced with AP U.S. History). Students may take additional social studies classes to fulfill other requirements.

Health & Physical Education-1 credit required for graduation. Students must take .5 Health and Wellness plus a physical education class that meets the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) requirement. Students can additional classes for elective credit.

Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Applied Arts (Please note, several different departments represented here)-1 credit required for graduation. This requirement can be fulfilled by taking credit classes that are identified by VPAA after the course title which can be found in multiple departments. Students can take additional credits to meet elective credit requirements as well as other requirements.

World Language- Students must complete 2 credits or an equivalent learning experience in grades K-12. Additional credits can be taken to meet the elective requirement.

Electives-4 required for graduation. Student can take electives in any of the departments listed above or from the departments you will find be clicking on the Elective "Department".
