Utica Community Schools English Language students from were recently given a glimpse into their future at a Macomb County naturalization ceremony.

Recently, EL Students studying Government/Civics as part of their curriculum were invited to observe the Naturalization Ceremony of 21 new Americans representing 49 countries. 

Students experiences 49 new Americans representing 21 countries take their oath of citizenship.

Two students -  Mayana Saka and Rita Yono – started the ceremony by leading with the Pledge of Allegiance. 

"In three years, I will take an oath and remember the moment I was helping the people who want to be a citizenship,” said Marvin Jazrawi.

Said Carlos Carvajal: I don’t know of any ceremony that is as important as this one.  I helped people to their seats and handed out American flags.  When the ceremony was finished I asked some new citizens about their feelings and they were of course very excited and I saw it in their smiles on their faces."
